Uluru tours suffer a blow
Uluru tours that make use of Talinguru Nyakunytjaku, a new viewing platform, will not see the iconic Australian Rock in all its glory. Talk about it ‘never rains…’ this comes only weeks after the news of the Uluru rare shrimp killed by tourism.
Talinguru Nyakunytjaku means ‘place to look from the sand dune’ in aboriginal, and the platform was, in accordance with its name, supposed to be the place to take in the spectacular and dramatic Uluru sunrise. However, during the popular winter season, its position sees the rock in the grips of shadow at dawn.
The Times quotes the cutting words of veteran landscape photographer Ken Duncan,
“It’s a second rate location at best. To call it a sunrise viewing area is laughable.”
Ouch. Has anyone seen the sunrise from Talinguru Nyakunytjaku? If you have, we’d love to hear a first-hand perspective.
