Booking your trip…

When it comes to booking your trip, STA Explorer Tim (Gadget Boy Goes Global) took a slightly different slant than most.

His latest post on Random Projects is titled I made a book, which is exactly what he has done. The book is full of imagery from the time he spent travelling around Iceland and when describing the venture he is modest as ever,

“Just for me and family, but if anyone wants to take a look here it is (it’s a big’un though so might take a while to load). You can even buy it, but I wouldn’t suggest it unless you want to buy pics of me for some strange reason!”

I’ve had a look through The Physics of Outdoor Bean Cookery and Other Icelandic Images (that’s the title of Tim’s publication) and it is full of remarkable photographs. Producing a book in this way is an amazing way to keep a record of your travel and, maybe not an option while on the hoof, it is certainly a fantastic way to relive your adventure once you’ve returned. And the result is the ultimate coffee table accessory - a book about you!

If this is something you think you’d like to have a go at, then have a look at these applications and give it a go; Lulu, WeBook, Blurb and Qoop. Also get in touch with Tim either through Random Projects or his Twitter @timminter, I’m sure he’d be happy to offer you some tips.

STA Explorer getting set for Tibet…

STA Explorer Gadget Boy Goes Global is getting set for Tibet. On his former travels he missed off Tibet and has, in his own words, been ‘not entirely content’ since.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, our STA Explorers are not the sort to let such things bother them without taking action so Tim (you can follow him @timminter) has booked it in for March/April next year!

We’ve checked what the Dalai Lama says about travel to Tibet after some conflicting messages we’d received and he says it’s all good to go. ‘Go to Tibet and see many places, as much as you can; then tell the world’. Now just need to decide on a transportation and route. Hitching, biking, bussing, 4×4, trekking?”

He’s already hoping to get to Tibet via Mount Everest basecamp, which is pretty lofty stuff (ok, that was bad). If you’ve done it or know something about it, give him a shout.

Gadget Boy nears the finish line

After departing Cambodia five weeks ago on a bamboo train (well not really, but these things do exist you know) Tim, STA Explorer Gadget Boy Goes Global, is now in his final destination of Thailand reflecting on adventures past.

Just one day left of our around the world trip now and it’s quite surreal.”

It seems like only yesterday that he was canoeing through the caymen infested waters” of the Amazon, and watching the skyline come alive” in Hong Kong.

Sticking with the theme of reflection he’s provided us with a cool, if not slightly confusing GPS overview of his trip. But before you get too swept up in nostalgia, this isn’t the last you’ll be hearing of Gadget Boy Goes Global!

“So much more to write about …Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.”

But for now, why not take a trip down memory lane and reminisce on your favorite Gadget Boy moments.

Gadget Boy reaches his penultimate destination

Tim, STA Explorer Gadget Boy Goes Global, has made it to his penultimate destination in his round the word trip – Cambodia.

And judging by his itinerary things aren’t slowing down any:

“Phenom Pen (killing fields, S21, city madness, Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda) - Kratie (river dolphins and countryside villages) - Siem Reap (Angkor Wat, Massage, Ed’s Birthday) - Bhatambang (Kayaking).”

This rapid trend is reflected in his post frequency with updates coming thick and fast. He’s experienced Viet Cong tunnels, been informed reliably by in-flight magazines on the amount of air-miles required to reach space, uploaded a lot of photos, seen Saigon and played about in an abandoned theme park.

That’s not all either. He has also given advice to never eat somewhere with pictures on the menu and visited the Cheesetastic Valley of Love:

“Gotta go here just for the shear “not like anything elseness” of it. It is a theme park for sure. There’s definitely a theme though defining it is quite a bit more difficult than I thought it would be.”

Gadget Boy Goes Global is keeping (very) busy!

As we cunningly predicted yesterday, a veritable tsunami of content has come crashing down on the shores of STA travelbuzz, and Gadget Boy Goes Global is the explorer responsible. Tim’s been off in Australia standing atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge, buying rare coins at St.Georges market, climbing aboard Captian Cook’s pimped out ride and avoiding giant crabs at the Sydney fish market.

Up there in the back corner are the serious specimens, HUGE lobsters, crabs and abalone and all sorts. If you go up there you’re gonna get wet.”

This is all very exciting, but it can’t possibly compare to the universal appeal of Top Gun. That’s right. Tim attended what seemed to be a Top Gun festival!

“It would appear this weekly (possibly monthly - not sure) Top Gun event has a bit of a following, with a good portion of the crowd shouting out the more famous lines”

He’s also taken some great photos of Sydney Opera House, as well as Bondi and Manly beaches, the latter including a rather horrific looking spider.

So jump over to Random Projects, check out the amazing photos and tell Tim why you think Top Gun fest is a wonderful/horrible idea!

Adopt brace position! Content incoming!!!

Gadget Boy Goes Global has been busy and the fruits of his endeavours are about to land online. When I say fruits, we’re talking photographs gigs and gigs of photographs, portable hard drives full of photographs!

“Woops, I seem to have racked up a pretty impressive/impossible to sort out, 10,000 photos and 80Gb worth of data so far.”

Also coming is a ‘massive’ update featuring Tim’s travel from New Zealand to Thailand. Not so bad. There is of course the small matter of Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Cambodia in between…

To grab the back story before the next installment jump to Tim’s blog, Random Projects.

Update x4 from Gadget Boy Goes Global

Tim has been busy updating away with some grand stuff. As our go-to STA Explorer when it comes to the technology assisted side of travelling, his first of four updates is particularly fitting.

Going Native demonstrates how deserving of this status he is. After the loss of numerous socket converters and power supplies Tim was without iPod speakers:

I headed off to the market and, just between the fish heads and unidentified miscellaneous meat isles in Hoi An market managed to find some electrical parts.”

Some intricate wiring later and ‘silent nights’ were a thing of the past!

His other three posts are full of joys such as water puppets, expensive under-crackers and The Dog Meat Market – it was actually marked on Tim’s map as such! For the explanatory details on all this head to Random Projects.
