STA Travel’s £10 Pom 2009

Participating STA Travel stores opened at 8am to sell the 150 £10 Pom tickets to the first eager-to-get-to-Aus individuals through their doors. All part of the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations, the promotion has caused quite a stir, with The Daily Echo, The Daily Mail and Telegraph taking an interest in those vying it out for a bargain trip.

In light of the fervour, bright and early this morning (for that read ‘an ungodly hour’), I and the lovely Michelle @michchapman headed to the STA Travel store in Victoria to get a first hand scoopful of £10 Pom action. And boy was there action.

There was an immense queue, a gaggle of photographers, security (you can never be to sure), a kangaroo, a koala and STA Travel staff armed with bacon sarnies for the would-be £10 Poms. As we mingled in the crowd we heard stories of people hoping to hook up with friends and relatives, along with one girl who’d just returned from Aus but had six months left on her Working Holiday Visa and wanted to make the most of it. You can see some pics here, and as I speak, a few videos involving talk of banana picking amongst other things are being edited together, so come back to catch them.

Liam! A successful £10 Pom

If you were lucky enough to bag a £10 Pom ticket like Liam pictured above, or even if you tried but were unlucky, we’d love to hear from you and add you to the growing STA Travelbuzz community!
