I’ve always wanted to walk the Inca Trail…
And it’s not only because it culminates in Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Inca’s whose name sounds like it should be a Pokémon character. It’s more because I envisage myself Indiana-esque, beaten fedora and beads of sweat rolling, as I hack through dark undergrowth to a hidden prize in a clearing obscured to the outside world for many years.
Maybe it’s a romantic vision, yet isn’t that enough of a reason to stir myself toward South America and the settlement of a lost civilization that is about 550 years old? Of course it is, and I wouldn’t be the first.
The Inca Trail has been visited, trekked along and survived by Neil and Emma on TravBuddy. They’ve provided a detailed account of a four day escapade to the ancient site and it’s worth reading. Their final thought is concise and encouraging to anyone unsure of whether the trip to Peru would be worth it, “In all, it has been the best 4 days of our lives and would do it again. If you are reading this buy a ticket, come to Peru and do the Inca Trail!!”
If you prefer your vicarious travel to be of a more visual nature then visit the Muz and Mo Travel Blog. There you’ll find an expansive photo-log of their Inca Trail experience, which besides including the snap below, also includes baby Llama’s, Muz being force fed tequila and a dog on a bike!

We’ve had an entry of words and one stacked with pictures, now both in harmony with Wonderlust, the travel blog of Dan and Sue. They also did the Trail in four days and met up with fellow trekkers the day after their return. The collective conclusion was that despite having aching legs and being out of breath for the majority of the walk, it was an experience none of them would forget.
All seem to come away from the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu feeling somewhat enriched, which has to be good. So you’ll excuse me, if I go away and check that my Dr. Jones paraphernalia is intact and ready for action.
