STA Travel Buzz Gone Fishing in Thailand

Chances are that you’ve been, or want to go, to Thailand: according to STA Travel, it consistently remains one of their top 3 most popular destinations. Watching Leo frolicking like a jungle-crazy hippy in The Beach back in 2001 confirmed it as the place for laid-back, nature-lovin’ children of the earth, and one of the best ways to experience Thailand is to hook up with some locals and go fishing.

Over at ScubaBoard forum, tgui writes about diving-fishing with 8 Kung Wiman villagers who ‘constitute an interdependent and traditional community whose hard work doesn’t allow bureaucrats and strangers to judge their way of life’. With some breathtaking photos and an extensive interview with two of the divers about their life and the reefs they work in, it’s definitely worth looking at.

And action man Garrett Schiche has just posted a description (again, with great pics) of his fishing expedition in the mountain forests of northern Thailand. Full of gems of local knowledge about the plants and wildlife of the forest, the fishing methods and their final fishy feast, Garrett includes a sun-soaked video of the experience: watch it here.
