To many of us outside observers, Nepal is one of those destinations which conjure an almost romantic sense of mystery in our minds. Reality has been less kind to this small, mountainous country and its people have only recently emerged from a bloody civil war leading to the abolishment of the monarchy.

The situation has since stabilized and the new elected government has made Nepal “an independent, indivisible, sovereign, secular, and inclusive democratic republic”. This means that travel to the country has now been given a ‘green light’ as proven by David Isaak from Just Another Travel Blog.

So, we’ve now established that it’s possible to visit Nepal, but you may be wondering why bother. Well, I’ll let Madeleine explain with her detailed post, Nepal in a very large nutshell. She writes about her 16 day trek around the Annapurna mountain range in the Himalayas, describing it as being “like the ultimate Fat Camp for the semi-fit”. If you demand something a little more adventurous than Wii Tennis for your exercise, this is one alternative…
