Do you think STA travel staff give good advice?

As you would expect, a lot STA Travel word of mouth we spot on the web concerns their prices and special deals, but we come across almost as much conversation regarding the advice given by their staff. It’s actually not surprising. They emphasise that they hire people who are seasoned travellers themselves, so they’re pretty much asking customers to judge them on their expertise.

Opinions I’ve seen recently seem pretty positive. Yesterday, 15 year old Kae opened this Yahoo! Answers thread asking if STA are any good, and Sian has replied that she thinks their particular strength lies in their advice:

The good thing about STA and other places is that you can just go in there and ask them questions and they can plan routes for you and give you all the infomation and you don’t have to then buy the ticket. They are very helpful even if you don’t actually buy your ticket from them in the end.

The thread is still open, so go and add your own opinion while you can.

Yesterday also saw roryk83 call out for recommendations on booking a round the world trip on hotukdeals forums, and Netty replied, rating STA staff’s ability to cover the bigger picture:

Try STA travel. My daughter travelled round the world with them and was impressed as they help with all the organising.

In the past, we’ve seen blogger George rave about Adam in STA’s Piccadilly branch and interrailing girls Meg wax lyrical about the mellifluous Rory.

So jump in and voice your opinion, or point us towards any posts you’ve made on the subject. Investing in a trip can be a very big deal, and fellow travellers are always on the look out for an honest opinion.

Well I have never used STA before, and so far, I’ve not yet had a consumer complaint! ;)

Keep in mind that sta travel staff work on commission, so their recommendations definitely have a bias. They WILL offer you what makes them the most money.

I found this out the hard way after getting a hotel room that was recommended by an agent and turned out to be rubbish and in a bad location!
