STA Travel’s World Traveller Internship - Sophie

We all knew that Sophie’s (@somiraculous) entry to become STA Travel’s World Traveller Internship was likely to be a treat, and that’s exactly how it turned out. Determined to make the last 50 her video features ceramics (think Ghost), fashion, music from the Kinky Wizzards as part of her work for Oxjam, testimonials that see her likened to Russia and her travel writing as featured in the Foretean Times.

But why am I descrbing it, sit back and enjoy! And think about whether you’d like to see her taking the position of World Travel Intern for STA Travel. If so vote here.

If you’re yet to apply there is still time. 11 days to be precise…

Travel and surf with the STA Explorers

If you’re looking to travel and surf then this might be the post for you. In our stable of travelling experiences we have a few guys who’ve slung on some doggers, prayed to Kahuna and surfed until the sun tells them it’s time to go home.

AJ (@spintheglobe) is a serious surfer; he’s often regaled me with stories of south coast excursions in the middle of winter to catch some waves regardless of freezing temperatures. That is seriously dedicated. He’s a well travelled guy and has recently applied for STA Travel’s World Traveller Internship. Recently he surfed his way down the East coast of America…

Another hero on our Explorer surf team is Chris (@curiouscheese); he’s currently carving his way through Australia. It didn’t all go according to plan though as his timing in terms of finding the surf seemed a little off. You can read about this in his article on the Drift Europe website,

“Sure, western Oz has some of the most insane line-ups you could ever get your stick wet in, and the mutant slabs of Margaret River offer suicidal-looking, dredging barrels on the right swell. But there wasn’t any. It looked promising for one brief day, but there was no way I was going to tackle 6-foot shore dumps in just inches of water – I left that to the local spongers.”

ChrisS - Hang 10 and Party

Finally we have George (@Gvee). He’s new to the art. In fact it was only last week he caught his first wave and referred to his surf experience as his new favourite thing,

“Words cannot express how happy surfing has made me feel, so I am not going to try. Instead I will leave you with this: do it. Just do it.

George out.”

Are you looking to travel and surf, or have you already been on a surfari? Tell us about it.

Fran delivers that Friday feeling…

If ever there was a post to encapsulate that Friday feeling then I’d like to think this was it. Francisco’s faux application to STA Travel’s World Traveller Internship. Fran is a Bolivian folk hero and we’re happy to have his talents bestowed upon the STA travelbuzz team. What talents I hear you cry. Watch the video and be dazzled. Think of it as a guide for those of you yet to apply.

It’s safe to say the following footage has had quite an effect, notably on @Emma_Sparks who at learning this was only a mock submission stated…

“@statravelbuzz Can Fran not come along anyway? Everyone needs a bit of that lyrical genius in their lives!”

He certainly wishes he could! Would you put Fran through to the last 50?

More contenders for the World Traveller Internship

As mentioned yesterday STA Travel’s World Traveller Internship is rapidly approaching the business end of the first round and applicants are pulling out the stops. Two such candidates are Rusja and Chris.

Rusja (make sure you pronounce her name correctly :)) is a ‘film student with itchy feet’. That to me sounds kind of perfect for the position of STA Travel Intern. She also loves to write, and cites names such as Dan Eldon, Jack Kerouac and Christopher McCandless as people who inspire her to travel. And, she’s even written a song to help her make the top 50…

“I’m a girl who wants to marvel // As I go around the world with STA Travel…”

Chris (@ChrisCuzzy) might not have a song, but his mum does say he’s a nice boy. A student from Leeds, he’s about to finish his degree so now is the time for travel! He lists, as one of his many skills, being able to whip up a barbeque for fellow travellers, and as evidence he’s an active sort there’s footage included of him conquering the three peak challenge. However, these are nothing compared to his gift with accents (see at the 3:25 mark)…

Does Rusja or Chris get your vote?

World Traveller Internship – AJ’s application

As the deadline approaches (only 20 days left!) for STA Travel’s World Traveller Internship applications to be submitted, the competition for the 50 places in the next round is heating up.

The latest to throw their travelling hat into the circle is STA Explorer Surfin’ USA - AJ. Surfer, blogger, web designer and all round super dude. He’s really pulled the stops out on his video, even highlighting the work he’s done helping us get our Experience the Gold Coast wiki going.

Here’s his video – let him and us know what you think by leaving a comment below.

World Traveller Internship - Paddy’s already started!

He might not be travelling around the world yet, but Paddy has already started documenting his journeys. When he decided to make his way from Leeds to London to come visit the travelbuzz team and other STA Travel World Traveller Intern hopefuls out came the video camera.

The video is a well honed piece of travel art, and an insight into the possibilities of @Paddy_Doyle as STA Travel’s intern - they could do worse that’s for sure…

This sort of thing is only going to strengthen Paddy’s quest for the last fifty and we’d love to see some more of the same from other candidates. Think of us as a place to share you’re thought processes and creative endeavours when it comes to your submissions. So, if you’re applying get in touch!

Emma ‘Sparky’ Sparks for STA Travel Intern

We’ve already featured a few entries to STA Travel’s World Traveller Internship and now we have the application of Emma Sparks for your viewing pleasure.

A student from the University of Warwick, Emma studies English and French, and her language skills are evident in her application. Another talent she shows off in her video is her dancing, and that’s not too shabby either. As she says,

“Only interest that equals my passion for travel? Dancing. I’m happy - as long as I’m moving.”

When it comes to documenting her experience she should be more than capable too, as the article Life and loves in Paris that she penned for The Warwick Boar (her University rag) shows. Good candidate? You be the judge…
