What is an STA Explorer

At STA Travelbuzz we’ve been building a tribe! We’ve got Teachers on Sabbaticals, the Young Fit and Adventurous and Globe-Trotting Guys among a host of others, but there is room for more!

Have you got a travel plan? Whether laid out in detail or barely formed – if you’re travelling with STA Travel we want you to become an STA Explorer and become part of our border-crossing, new-experience seeking and adventure-loving community.

As an STA Explorer we’ll help you get set up with some online presences, a blog, Flickr, YouTube, etc. Basically, whatever you think will suit you and your travel plans best so you can share all that happens while you’re away. As an STA Explorer we’ll make sure your thoughts, pictures and videos reach as wide an audience as possible – it’s all about sharing your journey and offering the insights you glean, be it beach bungalows for £2.50 a night, Chiang Mai’s Museum of World Insects and Natural Wonders or self realisation sparked by metaphorical assessments of a praying mantiswe want it all…

For more info on becoming an Explorer, or if you’ve already heard enough and want in, email the ever friendly Cam and we’ll set some wheels (tuk tuk wheels maybe?!) in motion…

    Hey James,

Superb story… travelling for 10 years… sounds great.

I was actually meant to have my first surfing lesson a few weeks ago, but the surf was flat… so disappointed, had to settle for an ice-cream on the beach instead.

Anyway, pleased everyone survived none the worse for the half sunk boat and thanks for getting in touch.

Wow James, sounds like you are really making the most of life good on you!!

I travelled in 2007 for 3 months, to S.Africa, NZ, Fiji and Thailand, and loved every minute. Now myself and a friend have just begun looking into working abroad for a year, we work in hotels so shouldn’t be too hard to find a job. We are thinking of USA but it looks quite tricky to get a Visa sorted, so now I am thinking Aus maybe a lot easier. If anyone has any idea’s or advice it would be much appreciated, ta!

    Hi!

I’m 21 and in my 2nd year at uni. The only place I have ever been abroad is Ypres in Belgium. I would love to go away this summer as I receive a £1000 scholarship. I really want to travel but don’t know where to start!

  15. Camilla wrote on 7 January 2010 at 12:42 pm

Hey Amy, with that money you should DEFINITELY jet off somewhere!

Are you looking to travel with a friend, or alone? We have many STA Explorers who could answer any queries you have :)

    Hey everyone,
I think I should make the most of my summer holidays and lack of responsibility this year so am considering Thailand / Malaysia for 5 weeks or so. I will probably be travelling alone and am 28- would I be one of the oldest?! Has anyone done any of the “big adventures”? I would love to hear what you thought of it.

Fran is sending you an email! :)

We probably can’t find out who’ll be on the trip with you, but we can certainly get you along to one of our meet-ups where you can speak to some of our Explorers. They’ll be able to give you advice regarding meeting people while travelling.

    Sam.

Come July I shall be unemployed and I’m going to Tajikistan via Riga in July/Aug and going to be setting up an ecotourism project with an NGO there as part of The Roof of the World Rally lot, then I’m going to be trying to get to Central America and trialling a driving adventure going to 11 countries, and then I’ve won a holiday in September to Peru for 10 days and I’m extending it for 2 weeks to do independant travel to do some jungly stuff, cover Bolivia and either Paraguay or Ecador. All in all – a very good year for me but requires saving the pennies!

  26. Sam wrote on 9 April 2010 at 1:08 pm

    Hey Sophie,

That does sound like a superb year of travel adventures.

    Keep us posted!

  27. Derfogail wrote on 9 April 2010 at 7:12 pm

Hey, I’m setting off for to India, Nepal, Tibet and Sri Lanka in 3 weeks time to do some trekking, white water kayaking and generally just mosey around that part of the world. If you know how I can get in touch with other people in the same place then let me know- otherwise I’d love to report back with news.

  28. Emma wrote on 10 April 2010 at 10:42 am

Gemma: I did a yr working holiday in australia, I worked at a convention center in perth, a backpacker travel agent in airlie beach ( didnt get paid a lot but major % on travel tours to NZ, FIJI and Northern territory made it fab) then a pharmacy in northern sydney. It shouldnt be too hard for you to find work in hotels while you are there, there is a backpacker mag its free called tnt they advertise jobs in there and check the hostel listing boards too the wake up hostel in sydney is great for this and nomads in melbourne. Good luck and have a fab time I did and its totally worth it so u go girl!

I have just come back from solo backpacking trip to 2 countries. I am told I am the first Indian woman to do so. I can share my experiences & tips.
Do i qualify to be a STA explorer?

  30. Miss H wrote on 10 June 2010 at 11:32 pm

What an AMAZING idea!! I’m currently suffering something of a 20-something crisis so have decided to take a career break and get me out of my suit! Planning on losing my backpacking ‘v’ plates via a RTW trip starting in September – global domination here I come. Plan is to conquer all seven continents – real adventures mandatory (Sir Ranulph is my hero). Plan is to hit South America, Australasia, Asia first, then Africa and Antarctica. DO I QUALIFY??!! XX

  31. Sam wrote on 11 June 2010 at 10:02 am

    Hey Miss H,

Wow! Do you qualify? Sounds promising… they certainly sound like adventures we’d like to hear about and share. I’ll get Jayne to drop you an email to let you know a bit more… exciting!

  32. Janusz wrote on 18 June 2010 at 11:52 pm

I’m going to India next week for volunteering with children for about a month and then I’ll travel all around Morocco. If I qualify that would be great!!!
